A player asked about this so just to clarify.. I really hate to make players waste a feat slot taking a (magic) item creation feat from the player's handbook.. in my opinion a spellcaster interested in doing so should be able to pick up that feat automatically ... Basically if you're interested in creating magic items just add the appropriate item creation feet to your character sheet as a freebie (assuming you're high enough level and have the appropriate prerequisites to qualify for the feat in the first place) ... I didn't give the issue too much thought beforehand since you guys normally wouldn't have the time to take days out of your adventures to whip up a sword or armor or what not at this point in time ... (WAY into the future when you start module 5 you'll have days worth of "leisure" time to do that sort of thing but that's a whiles from now ) ... however as solardawn pointed out, potions only take one day to create : www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/creatingMagicItems.htm#creatingPotions" Any place suitable for preparing spells is suitable for making items. Creating an item requires one day per 1,000 gp in the item’s base price, with a minimum of at least one day. Potions are an exception to this rule; they always take just one day to brew. " So if a day goes by of just travelling I'll let interested PC's do that "on the way" if they so desire....

You have just given Rin the power to create a Ring of Glibness when he hit's 7th. As I do believe you can space the days out as well. However that would be a DM call.

Hmm good point.. www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/creatingMagicItems.htm" The caster works for 8 hours each day. He cannot rush the process by working longer each day. But the days need not be consecutive, and the caster can use the rest of his time as he sees fit. " However as a DM I'm going to rule that anything other that potions can't be done without devoting a day of game time to it without travelling or adventuring due to "game balance" reasons.. potions are a minor enough magic item to let you guys get away with, anything more major would be a problem....

What about scribing scrolls? Same as potions? or as items?

Yup so any time we just want to sit around for a day we can use that day to impart the magics upon the item.... or hell even in camp as we can only walk for 8 hours before doing a forced march anyway. So that leaves 16 hours in the day. You know provided we still have the spell required. That sound about right Andre?

Scrolls and potions I'll let you guys do as you're travelling, anything else I'd require you to spend a day out of travelling/adventuring but yep ... remember you still have to pay the xp/gold piece costs for this stuff too ...

For potions and scrolls it's not 'too' horrible, but yeah, real magic items hurt a whole lot.

I'm dirt poor! I should invent a "summon gold pile" spell.

Actually that spell is called wish.... Sadly it usually crush's you with the gold. Also in Krynn it's summon...... Wait wait wait.... some spells can actually make steel.... Hmm... that would be kinda like making gold though wouldn't it?

Wish isn't really the same anymore as it once was, most of it now just fixed through spell use. Anyway, the spells that summon materials I think they say you can't make precious metals, and you can't make anything complex. Means no gold or diamonds, and the imprinting upon a steel coin might count as complex, since it's gotta look like... well like whatever the coins have on them.
Not to mention I think these things disappear after a while? Which would leave some fairly pissed off merchants...

How ever you could say polymorph a platinum coin into a 600 pound block of steel coins that are connected by a small breakable steel sliver.... *grins* Yes I looked it up it does work and it permanent.
