After the fight with Beni, Adam approaches Za'era.
"I have obviously misjudged and underestimated you. I am pleased to see that you have devoted yourself to the gods of good so wholeheartedly."
"I know I have disappointed you by not supporting your decisions, but I cannot stand to lose anyone to evil."
"But today you have exceeded all of my high expectations, as fair or unfair as they may be. I am.. sorry... I have seemed unsupportive of your choices."
While Adam seems somewhat awkward overall in this conversation, he seems almost pained to apologize. It is as if you are seeing him without his scales.
"I am frankly proud of you Za'era. You have come far in a short time. I may be wrong, but it seemed as if your father was proud of you too."
"Your father seems to have good in him as well - at least where you are concerned. Perhaps we.. you really... can save him from a terrible fate in this war. Your goodness has begun to touch those around you."

Za'era looks at Adam not sure if this is going to be just another lesson or if there will be some "buts" or "ifs" following any moment. He denied her hand and offer to get along just a few hours ago and now this? She has not done anything different nor changed her behavior so why the sudden change of his thinking?
"This is the first time you speak with me without making me feel that you look down on me. Thank you."
She offers her right hand once again to him.

"I think it was more of a case that he needed proof, He's one of those people who need to see it to believe it."
Rin chuckles.
"Hence the reason he didn't believe in dragons till today."

Za'era smiles at Adam as he takes her hand and squeezes it gently.

Rin chuckles.
"Well most of the time you can trust what I say. I did go to bard college after all. It's not all frivolous pursuits there you know. I did have to take classes on history and lore."
Rin rubs under his beak.
"How else could I know about Dragons, Takhisis, and Mishkaal? Made it up?"
Tani hops up on Rin's shoulder.
"He's telling the truth you know."
"Tani thats not helping my case."
"Oh sorry... They don't trust me yet do they?"
"I don't know you would have to ask them yourself."

(I should have XP and session recap up by Fri night at the latest but basically here's what Eolaer and Nine missed :
The resting place of the city's lost inhabitants, the Hall of Ancestors houses the ancient tombs and sarcophagi of long dead priests and kings. The tombs are in a state of disorder, having been looted by intruders. The eastern floor has fallen away, leaving a large hole from which a thick white mist rises. The stone floor is buckled. The air here is cold and damp. The walls drip with condensation. Broken streets branch out from this area, leading to various parts of the city. Dim light shines up through the floor. A vast hall stretches to the east. The ceiling, heavily reinforced, stands solidly above, but below, the floor has fallen away in several places. Hot mists, carrying the odor of decay, rise through the holes in the floor. ******************************************** " Come to the old ruins in the Swamp of Xak Tsaroth if you want your brother to live " The note had been short, terse and to the point... not a surprise... at one point Beni and Sangrias had been like brothers... he overlooked Sangrias's distaste for killing and Beni overlooked his distaste for how freely Beni killed... they'd saved each others lives more times than one could count, drunk more rounds of ale together than they can remember.. at one point the best of friends... And now look at the two of them... Beni with a sword to Sangrias's oldest brother's throat, Donovan... tense, dangerous... Sangrias didn't know which way Beni was going to jump...if he made any sudden movements Beni would slit Donovan's throat. Beni has tears in his eyes.. his voice is all choked up... " WHY Sangrias? After all we did for you my brother of shadows... the old man took you in, gave you a home, put food on your table... made you what you are today.. and it wasn't enough to murder him... you had to kill Violetta.. VIOLETTA Sangrias! That sweet, sweet girl... why the hell did you save her life if you were just going to kill her life? " Sangrias bows his head for a moment, closing his eyes... sweet, innocent Violetta... he'd taken a poisoned arrow for her once... and now she was dead, dead like the rest of her brothers and sisters, dead like the old man who'd given him a life off the streets, saved his family from poverty... " For the last time Beni I DIDN'T DO IT ! " Sangrias says gruffly , his own voice thick with emotion. " You know how it works... everyone in The Family uses Sword and Spell ...how many times have we changed our appearance ? A little bit of magic and you look just like someone else.." " They found your knife there Sangrias... YOUR knife! It was sticking out of Violetta's chest when we found it..." Beni is shaking, the hand holding the sword trembling with emotion.. " They STOLE it from me Beni !" Sangrias cries out in an anguished voice. " Look at me.. LOOK AT ME ! I wouldn't do that to The Family.. you KNOW that..." ********************************************************* You all hear the voices , the conversation.. sneaking ahead you're able to peer behind a corner, watch the scene before you.. neither of the armed men nor the other man being held hostage appear to have seen you yet... the one holding a sword to the man's throat has long dark hair, dark eyes, pale skin, very good looking (16 Appearance, "model" level good looks) .. the anguished man speaking to him is ruggedly good looking (14 Appearance - see Sangrias entry in Heroes of the Lance part of the forum for more information ) .. . the poor fellow with the sword to his throat has been stripped naked... kind of cute (13 Appearance) but more so for being buff than because of his face... Adam knows this ' Sangrias'... it was less than six months ago in Solace, the Inn of the Last Home.. a man with dark shadows of pain and fear in his eyes, sitting huddled at the bar, tensing every time the door opened...
The rest is detailed up above in my very first post on this thread but to fill in the gaps... Eolaer charged into action when I ran him as an NPC, rolled a "1", tripped and almost fell down the big gaping hole in the room, managing to grab on to the edge of the hole by his fingertips... Rin then kicked Eolaer down the hole and cast feather fall on Eolaer as he fell.. Za'era panicked seeing the staff going down the drain, literally, since the blue crystal staff was on Eolaer's back , and jumped after Eolaer... Eolaer managed to grab a rocky outcropping 50 feet down , Za'era hanging on to him.. Nine used his boots of teleportation to zap himself down to Eolaer and Za'era and take the blue crystal staff and grappling hook from Nine, hook used to get Za'era and Eolaer back up.. Eolaer and Nine then tried to punch Rin's lights out - fists, no subdual damage - and missed...)...

"Well, I remember you going to classes, but I do not remember any wisdom showing from it."Adam smiles. "As for you contributing seriously to a discussion, I suppose there is always a first time."Adam now grins. Rin chuckles. "Well most of the time you can trust what I say. "Yeah.... Wisdom and Knowledge are not exactly the same thing Adam. Dispite how much you may want them to be."
Rin smiles as well.
"Besides I was more saying that to the effect that you can trust me when I tell you tidbits of knowledge. You know like Dragons are Real."

"Very well. I'll say it Rin."
(exaggerating) "You were right! I will never doubt your fonts of obscure knowledge again!"
"How is that?"
Adam smiles. "Yeah.... Wisdom and Knowledge are not exactly the same thing Adam. Dispite how much you may want them to be." Rin smiles as well. "Besides I was more saying that to the effect that you can trust me when I tell you tidbits of knowledge. You know like Dragons are Real."

Rin is unusually silent after such a comment but finally speaks.
"Umm.... Well even if you did mean it. I would say no I don't like it one bit. Just don't dismiss things I say are real because they were children's stories or fairy tales. Thats all, I love when you find out I was telling the truth just to see the look on your face, However I think it would be best for my knowledge to be acknowledged in the first place.... That didn't sound the least bit redundant."

"Well, we will be well advised to listen to you in the future. You did indeed warn us about gods and dragons."
"I don't suppose you know of any weaknesses these creatures might have?"

"Sadly none that we could achieve as we are now no. Give us oh a few more years of combat experience and maybe. Otherwise we're as good as goo. As far as I know, best I could say is cut it's wings up so it can't fly."
Rin shrugs.
