(this takes place in the morning of the second day of the start of the campaign, just before our next FG game session on Aug 26th starts )...
" So I've sent the Usk brothers off on an errand.. there's something we've gotta' discuss" Rin announces to the group...
" As you know I was training the Usk brothers in the use of a whip" Rin grins over at Eolaer.. Eolaer knows Rin is thinking of the practical joke he played on Eolaer earlier when Rin whipped the hell out of a tree.... Rin's face then turns a bit more serious...
" They have potential.. with enough training they could be a force to be reckoned with.. but right now they only know about as much as your average city guard... folks we've been around for a while , travelling the globe... you know the drill... people who have survived as long as we have , have a certain... expertise... from our years of experience... if we take the Usk brothers somewhere REALLY dangerous they're gonna' croak if we just leave things as is... if we keep an eye out for them they'll develop same way we did, get better at the whole fighting thing.. but is it worth endangering ourselves in the middle of a fight to keep an eye on them? How seriously are we going to take this whole "apprentice" thing? They could be REALLY useful later on , they have that potential.. the question is... do we want to develop it? Worst case scenario if they get croaked their bodies become a tasty snack for me " Rin licks his beak, the same sort of gesture a human might make to lick his lips. " But the question remains.. what should we do ? Send them off , keep 'em around but don't spend too much time worrying about if they live or die... or keep 'em around and try to keep an eye out for them? Thoughts people?
" Here's what I think..."
(and enter Rin comment here dark alloy ... I may have taken some liberties with Rin here so if you feel I haven't written him up the way he should be please by all means feel free to copy, paste and re-write so it's more "Rin" style ) ...
Basically in game terms the Usk brothers are one hit dice creatures... they'll get killed off very quickly if no one keeps an eye out for them in combat. on the OTHER hand every time the PC's advance a level the Usk brothers, if still alive and if they engaged in combat alongside the PC's , will advance a level in the Fighter class too making them potentially useful later on ..... IF you feel it's worth the danger and grief to you in keeping them alive ....
