.. this is going to sound more draconian than it really is, don't want you guys thinking your least favorite school teacher is your DM .. having said that...
DISPUTES OVER RULES DURING GAME PLAY
I will do my best to familiarize myself enough with the rules to be able to quickly make decisive rules calls that reflect what is mentioned in the PHB/DMG during game play.. however the last thing I want is for an FG session to get bogged down with a lengthy discussion over what rules apply to which situation… I reserve the right to make a quick decisions to get the game moving again … after the game session I’ll look over the chat logs for that session and do some research in the rulebooks then post what the rulebooks say about that particular situation for future game sessions/reference in the “rules” section of this forum … players are more than welcome to post questions on rules or to point out rules here themselves and I also invite player discussion of said rules. In other words feel free to point out the rules but let's avoid arguing over them (aka "rules lawyering " )
WANDERING OFF FROM THE GROUP TO EXPLORE ON YOUR OWN.
It’s a well known fact that kender love to do this and certain independent- minded PC’s are likely to do so as well… while you will quite potentially be rewarded in terms of bonus xp and role playing points for doing this.. please be aware that PC’s who wander off on their own will get what I refer to as the “short end of the stick”. In other words my descriptions of what happens to you are going to be brief and to the point and I probably won’t engage said PC in prolonged conversation nor will I respond to multiple requests from the “solo” PC to engage in various actions. As draconian (no pun intended) as this sounds my reasoning is this – it’s unfair to the rest of the group if they’re sitting there waiting while I pay attention to one particular PC.
I’m not going to dictate what a PC should or should not do in a given situation, any good DM realizes how crucially important it is that players should be able to have the PC act as they please (even if it means facing the potentially unpleasant consequences of their actions afterwards).. however for the sake of keeping the game flowing at a fun, rapid pace I would strongly encourage PC’s to stick together as a group… quite honestly I’ve found in past FG sessions it REALLY slows things down once PC’s start splitting up.
FORUM ROLE PLAY
While I will spend a certain amount of time on each PC giving said PC his or her “spotlight” I’m aware that spending too much time doing so can be unfair to the other players … so expect me to cover extended PC-NPC interaction (romantic liaisons with an NPC would be one example, dramatic conversations with an NPC who happens to be a close friend or family member et cetera) in the forums for the most part .. basically it will be an ongoing conversation between myself and a player, NPC to PC.
I also strongly encourage PC’s to post flashbacks, written stories about their PC’s history … stories about “day to day” life for the PC’s, stuff the PC does that wasn’t covered during the campaign session.. and (especially) extended conversations between the PC’s outside of the game sessions. Such effort will most definitely be rewarded in terms of bonus xp (a blatant cirra rip off ) plus role playing points.
This isn’t to say I expect ALL role playing to take place outside of the game sessions, RPing is what makes game sessions fun! By all means go ahead and RP in FG , I'm sincerely hoping everyone does so... I’m just saying I plan on making intensive use of the forums for extended RP situations that only involve one PC for example… I also encourage people to use the forums in order to make their characters “come to life” and by doing so make the campaign far more entertaining as a result..
Forum role play is also a great way to cover ground in between campaign sessions (examples include pumping an NPC for information and clues that will help the PC’s figure out what to do next or heading off to explore a particular situation on your own – kender going off on their own little mini-quest of exploration for example). Using the forums for stuff like this will speed up future game sessions ....
