This will affect primarily Rin but I'm putting it out here on the forum so anyone else in the future who decides to build their own fast talking PC knows the guidelines ...
Basically here's my take on the Bluff skill, even insanely high rolls.. first I owe darkalloy an apology.. I think I mentioned something earlier about being able to convince say the Emperor of the Dragonarmies to call off the entire dragonarmy invasion thing if one succeeded on an insanely high bluff roll , say DC 50 ... I didn't think a PC would actually stand a chance of being able to roll such a result but thanks to lots (well deserved) RP points that he's spent darkalloy is in fact able to achieve that with the use of certain spells and his own natural abilities ! So for the sake of being able to continue the campaign (if the Emperor of the Dragonarmies is like " Ok you're right I should call off the whole thing" and he does so it's not much fun for everyone if the campaign ends prematurely ) I'm going to have to revamp my original "calling" (for lack of a better word) on the Bluff skill.. to clarify :
- the Bluffing Rin's been doing so far in the game is just fine as far as I'm concerned
- Bluffing someone into doing something they are strongly, STRONGLY opposed to is going to be impossible no matter how high the Bluff roll is ... so that pretty much eliminates the whole Dragonarmy Emperor calling off the dragonarmy attack thing for example ... if say Serinda was an NPC for example it would be impossible to bluff her into committing an act of cold blooded murder say of some innocent child for example no matter how good the reason presented to her is and how high the bluff roll , to give another example.
- bluffs tend to work well on lower ranking NPC's (the draconians Rin has bluffed so far, your average hobgoblin soldier et cetera)... higher ranking NPC's however tend to get their orders directly from the highest ranked authorities and answer to nobody else (Dragon Highlords - that is one of the 5 commanders of a huge , huge dragonarmy ... would be one example of a highly ranked authority ... the evil dragons tend to get their orders directly from Takhisis and the dragons KNOW there isn't a higher authority out there than the Queen of the Dark Gods , from the evil dragon's point of view anyways ) ... if you try to Bluff an NPC of fairly high authority/rank and you present them with orders contrary to what a Dragon Highlord ordered no matter how high the Bluff roll you're not going to be able to convince them.. at most the NPC wil come to the conclusion that the Bluff-er is sincere, a member of the dragonarmies, et cetera but the Bluff-er is just sadly misinformed of the "reality" of the situation
- thanks to Azcot and Sangrias joining the other side (blahness98 and any player newer than him this was before your time ... basically they're former PC's who are now evil NPC's) word is spreading among the dragonarmies about the fast-talking kenku with a mastery of being able to trick you into pretty much anything ... eventually even the lowest level dragonarmy soldier will be debriefed about this which makes Rin's job a bit more difficult especially given there aren't a huge amount of kenku working for the dragonarmies after Ack-Chak murdered large numbers of them (anyone who Ack-Chak felt wasn't "pious" enough in their worship of Takhisis) ... of course if Rin picks up some sort of feat or what not that lets him change his appearance to something other than a kenku this will help him out - or if he's really nice to Serinda she might change his looks for him ..
- darkalloy made a joke about bluffing Takhisis into calling off the dragonarmy attack on the world of Krynn.. I know he was joking but for anyone else who took it seriously no, bluffs by any mortal against one of the gods isn't going to work, period ..
This isn't meant to discourage Rin , by all means go on Bluffing you invested all the RP points in it ! I'm just letting people know in advance what the limits are on Bluff so players aren't disappointed or discouraged later on if things don't go the way the player was expecting it to ..
