Darkalloy (Rin the bird man) was right my bad ! The following quote comes from the WOTC website.. WOTC are the current owners of the D&D game and they publish official type D&D rules on their website so far as I'm concerned this is cannon. The words I put in bold letters in the quote from the website below clarify the question we had about the rules...
To explain the game mechanic a bit further for Draug the werewolf who is new to D&D version 3.0/3.5 rules ..it's not so much immunity to non-silver weapons and more so being able to ignore the first 5 points of damage from non-silver weapons.. if a non-silver weapon does more than 5 points of damage you still take damage you just subtract 5 from that total.. in the case of the draconians shooting arrows at you the draconians were unlucky in that their arrows weren't doing more than 5 points of damage.. if an arrow had struck you for say 8 points of damage, even a non-silver arrow, you would have taken 3 points of damage ... The dwarves didn't have much hope of doing more than 5 points of subdual damage to you anyways in the brawl so I felt free to not resolve the brawl with the dwarves round by round... basically I ruled you could hurt them with subdual damage by beating the crap out of them and they couldn't hurt you so the result of the battle was sort of a foregone conclusion ... if you have some hill giant whacking you for subdual damage however that's different - he's probably going to do more than 5 points of non-lethal damage (but you still get to subtract 5 points from that damage first )
Rin I should have read your back-up character over more closely my apologies ... with Draug I gave him the same stats as an afflicted lycanthrope but I gave him the ability to control his shape changes as a "freebie" (bent the rules a bit there to make it easier for Draug so he doesn't have to roll every time to shift into a werewolf or hybrid ) .. would you mind doing the same with your were if you end up running her? That would drop her to ECL +2 so it would give you an extra class level and it would also drop damage resistance to 5/silver I think.. my bad I should have caught that earlier when I looked over the character I think 15/silver damage resistance would be too powerful unless I upped the opposition to REALLY high levels (which means they'd probably waste everyone other than Rin's were when attacking the rest of you ) ..

A few other creatures require combinations of different types of attacks to overcome their damage reduction. The sorrowsworn demon has damage reduction 10/cold iron and good, meaning that a weapon must be made of cold-forged iron and be good-aligned to overcome the demon's damage reduction. A shadesteel golem has damage reduction 10/adamantine and magic, meaning that only adamantine weapons with at least a +1 enhancement bonus deal full damage to it. A weapon that falls into one category but not the other is of no help in overcoming the creature's damage reduction -- a magic sword or a nonmagic mace is no better at harming a lich than any other weapon.
