" Oh that's just Theros - he LOOKS scary but he's a nice guy as long as you don't mess with him - I get the feeling he's kind of like you that way " Tika winks up at Udyr .. she seems a bit less shy around Udyr now that she's spent most of the day with him .... " He moved here a while ago, used to be a sailor - he lived with the minotaurs ! They treated him as one of their own can you believe that ? ! ? "
" Don't think your friend wants to be bothered with my boring life story " grunts Theros still hammering away ...
" Go on, tell him ! " Tika shouts encouragingly above the hammering ... she seems determined that the two men get to know each other better... Theros stops hammering and grunts apologetically to Udyr " Sorry ... don't think she's going to let you go along your way until I bore you ...
" Born in a small fishing village... got bored... found myself some minotaurs, surrendered to them , they took me on as a cook's assistant on their ship.... did a few favors for them - "
" Fought alongside them you mean give yourself some credit" scoffs Tika
" Don't like to blow my own horn" grunts Theros giving Udyr an embarassed look.. he trails off obviously not wanting to continue out of fear that he would be "blowing his own horn" but when Tika makes no move to leave his smithy he sighs and continues .. " One minotaur took a liking to me , taught me how to work steel.. he.. died..." there's a momentary passing look of sorrow on the large black man's face before the customary gruff look returns... " Helped the minotaurs out when they were attacked, saved one.. they freed me , went to the brother of the one who worked steel, started working for him... learned every bit of steelworking I know from the minotaurs ... they let me strike out in my own, work in Sanction for a while.. I .. lost.. someone .. there.. " again the momentary look of sorrow on his face- Tika's eyes widen a bit - apparently the bit about him losing someone in the city of Sanction is the first Tika's heard of it ... " Moved to Solace.. stayed here, people seem friendly enough ... even if they like to poke their nose into other people's business" .. he glares down at Tika who , aside from a fond pat on his arm, completely ignores the glower as if she finds Theros to be no threat at all.. Theros sighs and looks over at Udyr ... " When I first moved here I could get people to leave me alone just by scowling at them - then after a while they figured out I wasn't going to DO anything to them - now they won't leave me alone." Theros sighs again. Tika chuckles, enjoying a laugh at his expense.. the friendship between her and the smith isn't surprising based on what Udyr's seen so far of Solace.. apparently everyone knows everyone here.
Theros uses a huge ladel to pour cold water from a basin over himself , scoops up water in a mug and offers it to Udyr asking the other big man " Drink ? " .. the smith then uses the same ladel to pour water right into his mouth not bothering with a mug - but taking care not to touch the ladel with his lips either, keeping the water fresh and clean for his guests...
" Udyr worships the old gods.. Habbakuk, god of .. nature I think you told Zane , right?" volunteers Tika - apparently she heard bits and pieces of the conversation between Zane and Udyr last night at the Inn of the Last Home while working the bar they were seated at ....
" Blue Phoenix.. right? " grunts Theros looking at Udyr questioningly. The fact that he knows the blue phoenix is the symbol of Habbakuk is a bit surprising - most people can't be bothered to keep track of the details of the old gods , given that the majority of the populace regards the true gods as little more than fairy tales nowadays...
