Udyr, Rin and Zane...

In the Rin and Zane part 2 thread Zane mentioned he was already paid up for the next few days to stay at the Inn of the Last Home so the events in this thread take place the day after the events in the "rin meets zane part 2 " thread ... basically close to a year before the "actual" start of the campaign, the year 351 AC - the first day of the year 351 AC actually ...

It had only been a month since he had met Rin and ate at the Inn of the Last Home, Udyr thought of the place... It wasn't overly pertentious, it was actually... tolerable, and the spiced potatoes were delicious. Udyr's stomach growled, he hadn't had much to eat that day and the potatoes began to sound even better, he could almost taste them. "It would only be a two day trek back to Solace..." he thought to himself as he layed out underneath the trees looking up at the starlit sky. "And I wouldn't mind swimming once more in the waters of Crystalmir Lake..." he thought, almost trying to convince himself, but he had already decided... he would start his trip to Solace in the morning

Just as Udyr had planned he arrived late at night in Solace, confident that most of the residents would be asleep and he could enjoy the Inn of the Last Home in the same atmosphere of peace and quiet he had the last time... the big man's hopes were dashed as he ventured closer to the Inn ... despite the late hour of the night lights were on in many of the houses and he could hear the excited chatter of the residents within.

He was tempted to turn back.. but he hadn't stopped to try and capture any game for his meal, wanting to save room for the potatoes he could still taste as if it was yesterday despite the thirty days that had passed in actuality... it was late at night.... the cold weather hardly bothered him if he slept out in the forest, he knew how to take care of himself, how to stay warm ...

(in game terms "he had a lot of ranks in survival skill", always a good thing )

But the lack of food would be ... irritating.. swearing loudly and irritably he continued on his way.

" Happy Yearshh Day ! " slurred a drunken young man as Udyr passed him by.. Udyr growled at him - eyes wide the young man scooted backwards several steps and gave the druid a wide berth.... " What the hell was " Happy Years Day " anyways? " The angry thought ran through Udyr's mind... some sort of stupid city-folk celebration it looked like.

The countdown to the end of the old year and the beginning of the new... Happy Year Day... was well underway... ale and wine had flown aplenty, Tika with the other "temporary" barmaids hired for this busy time of the year had run back and forth between the kitchen, the bar and the customers, Otik had sweat dripping from his bald head ... Zane watched Rin lead the patrons in a rousing chorus of the traditional song this time of the year... he didn't sing along though.. his thoughts were far away... LAURANA... how he wished she could be here sitting next to him during this holiday.. during ANY holiday... (Zane would know what the Happy Year Day holiday was btw , as would Rin of course )

Udyr winced at the noise as he entered ... despite how busy she was Tika noticed him immediately.. a small , almost shy, smile appeared on her face... despite her haggard look she signalled to him - pushing an already drunk and unconscious dwarf off a bar-stool she wildly waved her arms to Udyr, signalling to him that he should sit there - she vanished into the kitchen reappearing with a huge pile of spiced potatoes and an equally huge tankard of ale sitting it on the spot she'd pointed out to him.. it seemed as if Udyr was getting a LOT of attention compared to the other customers, something immediately apparent to Zane and Udyr (and Rin if he decides to take note of it while singing )

(if Udyr takes his seat where Tika's indicating that puts him right next to Zane who is also at the bar .. Zane and Udyr would recognize each other " Hey that's that guy up in the tree with the bow ! " " Hey that's the guy who yelled at the young lovers right after rescuing them by kicking the bear in the balls " .. Rin's performance can end at any time darkalloy chooses leaving darkalloy free to join them )

(just occurred to me... what Rin has to say to Udyr in this thread might depend on the outcome of the "Udyr meets Rin" previous thread at:

one possibility is to have Rin keep performing and let Udyr and Zane RP with each other for a while - when Rin and Udyr feel the "Rin and Udyr" thread is over Rin can jump in here and start chatting with them (Rin's performance ends at that point )

Zane merely glances over at the wild man that is being sat next to him. Zane remembered the one way conversation the one way conversation from a while back. He just turns back to his drink and noticing that it is getting low orders another and goes back to thinking about Laurana. Why can't he just let her go. She probably just moved on and is better off. "Tika, I could really use Galen's special brew right now. Or a lot more ale.."

((I made a reference to Galen's special brew in the last session for those that don't remember. Galen's brew = absinthe, the stuff from europe no the weak stuff in the US.))

Udyr sits in the spot Tika had pointed out to him, and immediately shoves a huge bite of potatoes into his mouth. They tasted even better than he remembered, almost making the people and noise more tolerable. Taking another bite, Udyr notices the man next to him.

"Hm, the poacher..." grummbles Udyr.

Udyr takes a drink of ale, then takes another bite of potatoes.

Zane just glances over at Udyr and simple says, "Oh, it's the overly agressive man of the wilds whom has a severe anger issue. Come back for another one sided conversation?" Zane keeps drinking his ale, waiting for another one.

Before Udyr could finish chewing his mouthful of spiced potatoes he blurts out, "All you spoke of were dreams!" Bits of food spray out of his mouth at Zane.

Udyr take a drink of ale to wash his mouthful of food down, then wipes his beard of the food that had just fallen out as he spoke.

Zane wipes bits and pieces of food off of him and just simply states, "Sure they were just dreams, but they were more than that. I was actually talking to a God while in those dreams and a little girl that hadn't even been born yet. But, then again you didn't seem to conserned, like most of the people that think the gods are gone." Zane drinks the last of his ale before starting on the fresh one Tika just brought him.

"The gods are NOT GONE! If it weren't for the grace of Habbakuk, I would not be alive today... random encounters with...." Udyr's words trail off.

Udyr thinks to himself, "Maybe I was suppose to meet this..." looks over at Zane, "man... Habbakuk must have meant for this to happen, for me to meet him. I dismissed him so easily. Yet we meet again, here... " (all in thought btw)

"Perhaps I was a bit hastey in dismissing your... dreams."

"Tell me, what do you think it all means? Who is the girl? and why is she important?" calmly asks Zane

Zane shrugs and orders another ale. "I know they aren't gone, just like I said, most people think they are. You wouldn't be alive today huh? I wouldn't exist either. That is a long story but your story sounds better. You tell me a story and I'll ease up on the ale and tell you what I think they mean."

" You sure ? " Tika asks Zane looking concerned " That's a pretty strong drink.. ok if you say so, Rin vouches for you so ... " She gets Zane the requested drink... then makes a point of staying within earshot of Udyr sneaking several glances his way as she does so while she works.

Zane looks at Tika when she brings back his drink, "I was there when he made this. I was his test subject in a matter of speaking." Zane takes the glass and merely sips at it. "The secret to not meeting the floor after drinking it is taking it in small sips. Take it a few gulps and it will kick your ass." Zane takes another small sip and continues, "You should have seen some of the other stuff he made. Most taverns and inns wouldn't stock it as it usually caused customers to have to leave after a single drink. There was this one monk that thought he could down a whole bottle of 'Galen's Shine.' That poor fellow almost died from what I hear, woke up a week later with a killer hangover. Galen had to stop selling it after that, but that crap was good." Another sip of his drink. "Galen wasn't that smart, but damn if he isn't the best brewer around."

((Side note, Galen was my fighter from an old game whom was a professional brewer. This situation did happen in a game and the monk failed the saving throw on it with a natural 1. DC to not get drunk off of it was a 22 though..))

(hilarious, I'm totally going to have to bring Galen in as an NPC now maybe blahness98 can send me a PM with his appearance and so forth - maybe even stats if blahness98 still has 'em lying around, if not that's ok I'll just write something new up

loved the bit about Udyr spraying food all over Zane too

Rin looks like the Udyr and Rin thread is wrapped up, not sure if you wanted to jump into the conversation or let them continue - I think Zane just asked Udyr if he wants to tell Zane his story ..... totally up to Udyr if he "spills" and tells his tale of course )

Udyr takes a deep breathe in, and lets it out slowly.

"Fine, if you must know MY story..."

He takes a drink of ale then grummbles.

"I suppose it starts when I was eight....we were... we were ambushed by ogres, I narrowly escaped... my parents, they didn't..."

Udyr takes another drink of ale.

"So there I was, alone, in the middle of wilderness for days. I had no clue where I was and I was starving, I could have easily been eatten by predators. But then as if out of no where, there was a man, he took me in, fed me, I had been saved, Habbakuk sent me a protector, a mentor. The man taught me much of the wilds, of the gods, of Habbakuk, he trained me in the way of the druid."
