((A quick bit of fiction for Sumlanna's Name-day. Edit: Finally know what town she lived in... Restglen))
Sumlanna awoke as the sun peaked it's face from behind the sea. Today was going to be a great day as it was her fifteenth name-day, as customary for dinner her father would take her to the local tavern for some food and a couple of glasses of ale. She was excited as the night before a ship had made port with new foods and drinks for the tavern Sumlanna had never seen. The tavern keep had made it clear that he wasn't going to start offering them until today, so Sumlanna knew she would be getting fresh food there for once. Sumlanna hopped out of her bed and looked around for her father. She was unsurprised when he wasn't there, as he was usually out fishing before the sun rose. Sumlanna quickly grabbed a small piece of bread for her breakfast as she ran out the door. She set herself in the shallows on the edge of shore and ate as she watched the ships head in and out of port. Sumlanna's home was in a small secluded cove just a short walk west of town. It afforded them privacy, privacy Sumlanna was grateful for as she had seen how most half-breeds were treated in town. Sitting in the water thinking about how other half-breeds must feel considering that some of them are tormented daily depressed her a bit. She shook her head quickly to clear her thoughts, after all it was her name-day and it was not right to feel sad. Sumlanna rose from the water and smiled as she saw how calm it looked a rarity, but this only made her day better. Quickly she stripped down to just her undergarments as she knew that her father would punish her is she went swimming in her night dress, sitting in the water was fine, swimming however had a habit of ripping the light cloth it was made of. Running headlong in the water Sumlanna thought that she would try a two league swim this day as it had been a while since she had gone much further than the small rocky out cropping she lounges on. Just as she reached the outcropping she noticed her fathers boat pulling into the port. It wasn't even close to midday, so either the fish were jumping into the boat or something happened. Sumlanna started swimming toward the port o make sure everything was alright. As she got closer however her anxiousness was relieved as she saw her father tugging one of several large nets out of the boat. Pleased her father had a great day fishing she swam back toward the out cropping. Quickly she hopped up onto the rocks and lied down on her back. She knew she said she was going to swim farther than normal and she had just not in the direction she intended. Slowly Sumlanna drifted off into a nap the sun warming her an making her sleepy. Sumlanna awoke a few hours later, it was midday. Stretching Sumlanna looked back to port and noticed her father's small boat was still tied to the same place. Normally if her father had a good day fishing he would have gone out once or twice more docking the boat at home for his last trip. Quickly Sumlanna jumped into the water and swam for port as fast as she could. Arriving at port she quickly clambered up the docks near her fathers boat. Taking a look inside she saw one net of fish left in the boat. they were long dead and had started to rot the smell coming of them was nauseating. Determined more now than she had been merely moments ago she approached one of the local fish mongers the one her father usually sold to. She asked him if she had seen her father. The fish monger simply nodded and pointed in the direction of the Tavern. Arriving at the tavern she walked in noticing her father nursing an ale. She skirted around hoping her father would not see her as she made her way to the tavern keep. However this was made harder by the fact that she was still in her undergarments and a few of the drunken sailors where giving her hoots and hollers and mentioning some very obscene acts they would like to commit on her. The tavern-keep however was having none of it and threw a tankard at the one who started the hooting. She thanked the tavern-keep and quickly asked how many her father had. Indicating that was still his first one and he has been sipping at it for hours gave relief as she would not have to drag her father home while he called her by her mother name. Slowly she inched herself closer to her father know she would probably be punished for walking around as she is. She was worried something horrible had happened, still if that was the case her father would be extremely drunk right now.
"Daddy what's wrong? Did the fish monger screw you over with the price again, I mean there are rotting fish in your boat, that was easily a steel in fish."
Her father turned his head toward his daughter, it almost looked as if he had been crying.
"No, I got a good price for the fish. Those other fish are bait for next time."
Sumlanna placed her hand on her father's arm looking more worried.
"Then what is it? Are you going to die?"
She then gasped a thought popping into her head.
"Am I going to die?"
Her father gave a weak chuckle and smile.
"No you won't die... I don't think. Look Sumlanna your fifteen now. You'd be getting close to a full grown woman if you were human, probably even engaged to be married to some noble given how pretty you are. The problem is your not human, I can't keep taking care of you until you are an adult.. I don't know when that will be.. So I'm letting you go."
Sumlanna looked at her father with a confused look.
"Letting me go where exactly?"
Her father sighed deeply as he turned to her and grabbed her arms.
"You not going to be living with me anymore, your going to have to make a living for yourself. I'll give you some money to get you by the first day or so, but I'll be gone after this. I'm moving away, I'm going to burn the cottage as well that way you'll have to depend on yourself to get by."
Sumlanna tried to pull away from her father tears in her eyes.
"NO your lying your just drunk. you can't mean it.", Sumlanna wailed and trashed about trying to free herself from her fathers grip.
Her father abruptly shook her and gave her a small slap on the cheek.
"Now look Sumlanna, I'm moving and you'll have no place to stay unless you grow up. You have to be an adult now. The tavern keeper has agreed to let you stay her tonight, I want you rested for tomorrow, you can't start you life as an adult if your tired from a poor nights rest."
Her father loosened his grip and stared at his daughter. Sumlanna rubbed the cheek he smacked and looked around the room at all the people staring at her, looking back to her father she gave him a quick slap as she ran out the door. He father calling to her as he chased after her.
"Sumlanna wait, where do you think your going?"
She didn't wait for him or even look back, instead she jumped into the sea and swam for home as she knew it was quicker than walking. Knowing she didn't have long before her father got home she quickly grabbed one of the water proof sacks they kept and packed it with food, some cloth, and what coin she could find around the house s well as what she needed to make a small camp. As she left she saw her father running down the path from town panting heavily. As she slung the sack around her back she leapt into the water once more swimming for her favorite place. She knew her father had no idea she pent her time there so it seemed safe to her. As she lay on the rock curled up and crying she fell asleep, waking up only a few hours later. Eventually she drifted off to sleep again, waking once more in the middle of the night shivering and hungry. She decided that she was going to do what her father said as she nibbled at some bread she grabbed. However it wasn't so that she would survive it was to show her father that she was better than him, that she had always been an adult. That it was him that was seeing a child.
